Make a leaf crown
I love the colours of autumn. Many of the leaves have been blown off the trees where we are now, but there are still plenty lying about on the ground. Making a leaf crown is a lovely thing to do. You don’t need any craft materials to make it, so it can also be made in the park. It’s fiddly for very young children, I made this one with my two and half year old daughter, she was very happy collecting the leaves. Then I made it for her and she loved wearing it!
Go for a walk and collect some colourful leaves. We went for a walk to our local park and collected a bunch of maple and sweet gum leaves in beautiful colours.
2. When you get home, lay your leaves out on a flat surface. Choose which leaves you want to use - you’ll need around 20, depending on the size of your leaves and the size of the head that the crown will be worn on!
3. Break the stems off all the leaves you want to use and keep them to the side.
4. Take two of your leaves and and overlap them, as shown in the photograph below. Then take one of the broken off stems and poke it through the leaves in an under over fashion to secure the two leaves together.
5. Continue doing this until your crown is the size you want to make it. Then join the two end leaves together to finish it off! There are a few variations of this, if you have larger leaves you may want to fold them. Red Ted Art have a video and explanation on how to do this.
