FAQs
About Mud & Bloom boxes
-
A Mud & Bloom box is a monthly subscription box delivering seasonal nature crafts and gardening activities to your door.
Each Craft & Gardening Box contains at least five seasonal growing and craft activities along with instructions, nature news and games to teach children about the seasons, plants, insects, birds, soil and rainfall. Our craft activities have been designed to get children outside in nature - finding materials themselves from their walks and using these objects imaginatively.
Our Gardening Box contains at least two growing activities along with detailed instruction cards, jobs to do in the garden this month and a spotter card. The Gardening Box includes the same growing activities each month as the Mud & Bloom Box.
-
The Craft & Gardening Box and Party Bag activities have been created for 3-8-year-olds. The boxes and party bags are not recommended for children under three years of age as there may be small parts included with some of the activities and there may be items such as seeds and paints that should not be ingested. Our Gardening Boxes are for all ages!
-
Activity sheets are written for children to read or be read to, which helps them enjoy the activities and use them to appreciate and learn about nature. However, our boxes contain seeds, paint and other items - some of which can be harmful if ingested. Some of the foraging activities need careful supervision and some of the craft activities involve sharp objects. For this reason, adult supervision is required when opening the box and completing the activities. The boxes are not recommended for children under three years of age.
-
A single box includes enough materials for ONE child to undertake each activity and a sibling box includes enough materials for TWO children to undertake the activities. They will just share certain items such as the cards and items such as paints or glue.
-
The craft activities have been developed with the busy parent in mind, so we aim to include everything you need to get started. Most of the craft activities are designed to get children finding and using objects from nature - all can easily be found on a short walk to your garden or local park. You may occasionally need things from your recycling box, such as old jam jars. For the growing activities, you'll also need something to plant in such as an old egg carton, small yogurt pots or small plant pots. Once the plants have started to grow, you will need some extra compost or soil and either bigger pots or a space in a garden or allotment.
We do also sometimes include extra activities in our boxes, for example, a foraging activity with a recipe that may require you to purchase ingredients, but these are extra activities to the standard box contents, and not included every month.
-
We want our boxes to be accessible to peop without gardens, so we provide organic, peat-free compost pellets in all of our boxes to enable anyone to get started and grow the seeds regardless of what space they have. Some larger plants benefit from eventually being planted outside but this can be achieved by moving them to larger pots, grow bags or planters.
-
We believe passionately in looking after our planet and we try and keep our boxes environmentally friendly by sourcing natural and plastic free materials and packaging where possible and using certified organic and biodynamic seeds and organic peat free compost pellets. All our packaging is recyclable. We're always on the lookout for green and ethical wholesale craft companies and for ideas to make our boxes more environmentally friendly. If you have thoughts, ideas or questions, please email us at support@mudandbloom.com.
-
The majority of the products in our boxes are vegan, but we do occasionally include sheep's wool or beeswax, for example. If you would like to know what's in a box before ordering, you will be able to see the contents from the 1st of each month listed on our home page and also through our social media channels.
-
We aim to not repeat any activities for 24 months. If we do repeat any craft activities, they will have been updated and growing activities will include new varieties of seed.
