Make stained glass pebbles

Decorate pebbles with colourful tissue paper and display around your garden or as part of an Easter or spring display in your home. The tissue paper gives a really lovely stained glass effect.

What you will need:

  • Smooth pebbles

  • Tissue paper

  • PVA glue ( you could also use a glue stick)

  • Water

  • Paintbrush

  • Waterproof sealer / acrylic varnish (optional)

What you need to do:

Start by making sure that your pebbles are clean by giving them a rinse under water and then dry them with a cloth.

Cut or rip your tissue paper into small pieces. You can do this as you go along but it can get a bit trickier once you start getting glue on your hands! You can tear the pieces into any shape or size you want to.

Using your paintbrush, brush a piece of your cut or ripped tissue paper with PVA glue and carefully stick it to the top surface of your pebble. Use some extra PVA glue to cover the tissue paper and smooth down the edges.

Continue sticking tissue paper onto your pebble until the top is covered in tissue paper. Leave this to dry while you move onto your next pebble.

Once the glue has dried (you can speed this up with a hairdryer!), turn your pebbles over and stick more tissue paper onto them so they are decorated all over.

As well as making stained glass designs on your pebbles, you can also make pictures with your tissue paper. I made these flower petals using torn bits of overlapping pink and red tissue paper.

If you’d like to display your pebbles outside then, once the glue is dry, seal them with an acrylic varnish. You can buy this in most craft stores, either as a spray or as a liquid, similar to PVA glue.

Once all your pebbles are completely dry, you can display them in a bowl or use them to add a bit of fun to your outdoor plant pots!
