Make your own nature noughts and crosses game
This nature noughts and crosses game is perfect for playing outdoors and is really simple to make. You can also draw a picture version on the other side of your noughts and crosses!
What you will need:
10 slices of wood
Marker pens or paint pens
4 straight sticks
Pouch to keep your noughts and crosses in or, if you drill holes in the wooden slices, you can loop them together with a pipe cleaner
What you need to do:
To make your own nature noughts and crosses game, you’ll first need to make your noughts and crosses! I used slices of wood for this as they are a nice chunky size, easy to draw on and you can use both sides. Although you can make your own wood slices using a hand saw and a branch, you can also purchase them in craft shops. I used the wood slices that we had previously included in our February 2022 box (for a Nordic braiding activity). These slices are about 5-6cm diameter.
You will need to draw crosses on five of the wood slices and noughts on the other five. You might find it helpful to draw around a bottle lid for your noughts.
On the other side of your wood slices you can make a picture version of noughts and crosses. I chose ladybirds and hairy caterpillars. It doesn’t have the same kind of ring to it as noughts and crosses but the pictures are cute!
Now you’ll just need to find four straight sticks to make your grid and then you are ready to play!
You can store your wood slices in a pouch ready to take outdoors or, if your wood slices have holes pre-drilled, you can thread them together with a pipe cleaner and twist the ends together to secure them.
